“Songs are funny things,” the legendary songwriter Pete Seeger noted. “They can slip across borders. Proliferate in prisons. Penetrate hard shells. I always believed that the right song at the right moment could change history.” Nick Barker’s aim has always been a little more modest. He never set out to change the world, he just wanted to be in a great bar band. But along the way, he has become one of Australia’s finest songwriters. Once asked by a journalist which local songwriters he’d like to work with, Tim Rogers replied: “Nick Barker and Don Walker.” Possessing a wry sense of humour, a deft turn of phrase and a distinctive voice , Barker has crafted a significant body of work (12 albums) ranging from his days fronting the Reptiles through to his solo career, as well as a couple of albums with his side project “The Heartache State” through to his last solo realise 2024’s “Exoskeleton” . Solo or with a band , Nick Barker is always a guaranteed good night out for lovers of Australian live Music that makes you think.
