WADAMBUK WALKERS

Join the Wadambuk Walkers

Join the Wadambuk Walkers — two friendly walking groups organised by the Community Centre.

Wadambuk Walkers for the more experienced walker. Enjoy the beauty of our natural surroundings in good company while exploring local tracks and trails, with some walks a little further afield. All are welcome — come along for connection, conversation and fresh air!

Happy Wanderers. We’ve introduced a new “Slow Walkers” group for those who prefer a more relaxed pace. Perfect for anyone who enjoys a gentler stroll, these walks cover shorter distances and easier terrain, with plenty of time to take in the surroundings and enjoy good company. All welcome — no rush, just a great way to get outdoors and stay connected.

UPCOMING WALKS

Wadambuk Walkers
Plenty Gorge Walk

Date: Sunday 28 June 2026
Time: meet 8:45 am for a 9:00 am start
Meet Location:  Yellow Gum Recreation Area, Plenty Gorge*
Difficulty Level: Moderate**

Distance: Approx 10.5 km

**This is a walk with a few inclines up and down in the Gorge and includes two river crossings.  The first is over a 10m, single plank bridge approximately 40cm wide, and the second can either be over stepping stones (if the river is low), a large tree trunk, or you can simply take off your boots and walk across (depth around knee height).  In both cases, assistance to cross will be provided if requested.  A walking pole or longer walking stick is useful in both scenarios to provide a third point of contact with the ground.  If there has been significant rain in the time leading up to the walk, for safety reasons, the river won’t be crossed and an alternate route will be identified.

About the walk:  The walk traverses’ multiple settings from large, reasonably flat paths through sparse and open bushland to rocky, single track with excellent views of the river and Blue Lake.  Some of these paths are quite steep, but mercifully, reasonably short.  At that time of the morning the birdlife is exceptionally vocal, and quite abundant.   For the geologists, there are numerous impressive strata formations and we will walk upon river rocks from the bottom of the river now a hundred metres above where it now flows.  This walk will cover the southern reaches of the park.  Another walk covering the northern reaches of the park will be organised later in the year.

Duration:  Approx 3 hours (with a couple of stops included)

What to bring: Snacks, drinking water, appropriate clothing and footwear.  A walking pole or longer walking stick optional.

More details:

Parking:  Please follow the road into the park as far as it goes.  We will be as close as we can be to the main recreation/toilet area.

Registration is mandatory, see the forms below.

IMPORTANT -  A walk will be cancelled if a Total Fire Ban is declared for the planned date.
